Enterprise Car Club Hilton Honors deal

What is Enterprise Car Club?

Enterprise Car Club is a competitor to ZipcarIt offers cars ‘by the hour’ which can be booked online or via an app and picked up and dropped off – in big cities – at parking bays near your house.  In smaller towns, cars can often be picked up at railway stations, car parks or Enterprise Rent-A-Car branches.

Cars are available 24/7.  On top of the £60 annual fee, you pay an hourly charge (from £8 in London, with a daily cap of £50ish) when you rent a car and a mileage charge to reflect the distance you travel.  Fuel costs are include –  if you need to fill up, a fuel card is in the car – as is £1,000 of excess damage cover. You can pay a supplement to reduce the excess to £100.

I have no personal experience of Enterprise Car Club, although I have seen plenty of their vehicles around in London, but I have had a Zipcar membership for around 15 years now.  It works well for us, with around 10 cars within 10 minutes walk of our house, and has meant we have had no need to buy a car for day to day use.

Where does Enterprise Car Club operate?

Whilst car clubs are most commonly found in London and other big cities, Enterprise operates in smaller towns too.

There are 1,300 cars available across the UK.  The website currently shows over 200 towns as having cars available.  However, I am guessing that – outside big cities – cars are only available from your local Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch and not on residential street corners.

This offer is also available for residents of the Republic of Ireland.

How do I claim my Hilton Honors membership deal?

You need to apply via this special page of the Enterprise Car Club website.

You must be at least 22 years old to join.

As the £20 of driving credit covers the £20 membership fee for the first year, the 2,000 Hilton Honors points you will receive are an extra bonus on top.

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

Thanks for this – it will be useful for a few trips back home. I usually rent but with the £30 offer this month this seems a better bet, does anyone have/know a preferred excess cover insurance company that would cover enterprise car club specifically?

    • R76 says:

I use insurance4carhire.com, where the policy wording is reassuringly specific that it does cover car clubs – though I’ve never had to claim on it.

  • JohnTh says:

Popular in Brighton and Hove, used it for a while when one car out of action. Cars always need to be returned to the same space, but you are obviously dependent on the previous driver.

  • ba says:

I live in central London and use both ECC and ZC. I think ZC is the better service, but ECC have been doing some great deals recently at £30 per day so my most recent bookings have been with them. I’ve always had a good experience with ECC customer service, unlike others apparently, but unfortunately the vehicles tend to be in a poorer condition and sometimes are very dirty. I wouldn’t necessarily encourage anyone to “switch” from ZC. Chances are the service you use is dictated by geography anyway.

    • ba says:

P.s One potentially interesting thing about ECC is that – unless it has changed – there is no minimum time you need to have held a driving licence . So it can work well for those in cities who have just passed their test , but don’t want to buy a car, so long as the age requirement is met. ZC requires 1 year I believe.

  • Colin_Thames says:

No Zipcar in Edinburgh but ECC cars dotted all over. Don’t use them myself but a friend does and seems fairly happy. The cars look pretty smart and new. A far cry from the rather battered Zipcar I once hired but that may not be typical now.

  • Russell G says:

One way Zipcar flex, especially to and from airports is the killer feature that Zipcar has and ECC doesn’t.

    • Rhys says:

Less useful now the Heathrow drop-off isn’t directly at T5…I used to use it all the time!
