Hotel news: IHG finally arrives in Sweden, Hilton’s Hampton London Old Street opens

IHG finally opens a hotel in Sweden
Last weekend we ran a two-part review of the IHG One Rewards program. In the article we wrote:
“there are few places in the world where you will not find one of their hotels. Except Sweden.”
By genuine coincidence, IHG has just announced a Swedish hotel.
voco Stockholm Kista will be in Kista, known as Sweden’s Silicon Valley. It will be situated adjacent to the Nordic Forum, which includes the global HQ of Ericsson.
Whilst voco is designed as a ‘conversion brand’ (one which allows existing hotels to transfer without having to meet tough brand standards), this is a new build.
The 201-room property will open in late 2024 and will include a rooftop spa with an indoor swimming pool, as well as a rooftop garden.
Hampton by Hilton London Old Street is open
We are fans of Hilton’s midscale Hampton brand and like to promote new UK openings. They are generally new builds and the room spec is surprisingly good these days (a 55 inch TV and a work desk, for a start). If you visit a new one it is very hard to go wrong.
Last year we covered the opening of Hampton London City, which is just off the bottom of Brick Lane. I reviewed the Hampton by Hilton London City hotel here.
This new opening, Hampton by Hilton London Old Street, is at the opposite end of the Brick Lane / Shoreditch / Hoxton drag, near Old Street.
The address is Westland Place, which means it is north west of Old Street roundabout. It is a bit further away from Shoreditch than Holiday Inn Express London City or Hilton’s Hart Shoreditch.
The hotel has 109 rooms and, like all Hampton properties, comes with free hot breakfast for all guests.
