Rhys has literally just reappeared in the HfP office after a trip to Bogota in Colombia, trying out the new Iberia A350 business class seat. This review, and a Four Seasons hotel review, will follow in a couple of weeks.

Iberia isn’t the only airline to fly from Madrid to Bogota, however. LATAM also operates on this route, and is currently offering a bargain fare of £1,300 in business class.

For example:

LATAM business class sale to Bogota

This appear to be valid for most of 2024.

They are not, as far as I can tell, ‘light’ tickets in any way and come with lounge access, 2 x 23kg suitcases and free seat selection.

Whilst LATAM is no longer in a major airline alliance, it is partners with British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic amongst others. You should do the maths to work out which scheme is most attractive for your flight. Virgin Atlantic is the only partner from this list which offers elite status credit.

As a quick summary:

  • Iberia – no tier points, 1.25 Avios per mile flown if your business class ticket books into Z, C, I, D or J (click here for more)
  • Virgin Atlantic – 75 tier points per sector (2,000+ miles), 1.25 Virgin Points per miles flown if your business class ticket books into Z, C or I, or 1.5 Virgin Points per mile in D or J (click here for more)

Frustratingly I couldn’t see anywhere on the LATAM booking site which showed the exact fare class you were buying.

You can look up dates and pricing on the LATAM website here.

The Aegean lounge at LCA is also due a refurbishment which was meant to happen before Christmas but did not. I understand there will be a complete reshuffle of both lounge spaces!

    • tony says:

But it’s not that long since the Aspire lounge was refurbed and they had that temporary arrangement down by the gates.

Is it not simply that the Aspire lounge is leaving PP? They were struggling to cope the last time I was through in September.

  • PlaneSpeaking says:

That’s a real shame about the Larnaca lounge. It wasn’t the best and often got overcrowded and with dripping aircon units too but I thought it had improved over the last year or so.

    • Denis says:

Real shame indeed as we, a family of 5, use it twice a year and there are a kids area and a nice terrace…

  • Callum says:

I guess it’s not infallible, but ITA Matrix is useful. If it’s showing the same flights at the same price as the airline website, odds are the fare class it shows will be the same.

From the Larnaca Airport website: (Aspire Lounge…) Currently closed for renovation, expected to reopen 1st May 2024

And if you can squeeze in Jardín as well I would highly recommend; also have a look at Providencia Island if you’ve got time!

          • Gordon says:

Thank you for your recommendations JC, we have allowed three weeks, so should be able to factor these in, I’ve heard great things about this country, so without doubt this will not be our only visit.

  • PeteM says:

Thanks Sarah/Rob for the HN tip – works neatly for a late Valentine’s Day dinner at the OXO Tower.

  • cin4 says:

Poor price for MAD-BOG when the avios availability and price on IB is so much better.

    • Scott says:

We know that using points for travel can often be a good deal, offering outsize value, that’s why the site exists. £1300 *is* a good cash fare for LH in business.

    • Thegasman says:

Remember to factor in the £125 (12,477) worth of Avios/Virgin points per passenger.
