British Airways lounge at Edinburgh Airport to close on Sunday for refurbishment

The British Airways lounge upgrade programme, which has recently seen the Heathrow Terminal 5B lounge get an overhaul and new furniture added to Galleries First, is heading north.

The (surprisingly large) BA lounge at Edinburgh Airport will close on Sunday for three weeks for refurbishment.

This isn’t a bad lounge – the sheer size of it means that you can usually find somewhere quiet to sit and there is enough variety of furnishings to keep both business and leisure passengers happy.

British Airways could not confirm which lounge would be used as the alternative, although it appears to be the Aspire lounge by Gate 4, as this is currently unavailable for cash bookings. If you have a Priority Pass airport lounge club card, I would recommend the Plaza Premium lounge (review here) instead which is a far more pleasant space.

HSBC Premier World Elite Mastercard gets you get a free Priority Pass card, allowing you access to the Priority Pass network.  Guests are charged at £24 although it may be cheaper to pay £60 for a supplementary credit card for your partner.

    A pity you did not run this article on a week day but it looks line a lit of feedback regardless. It would be useful if you and/or Rhys analysed it and reported back on % taking less than a month, 1-2 months, 3-4 months etc obg with time for 50%and 90% of claims to be settled. It would be fascinating, a great headline-grabber, and likely followed by mainstream media. It would also be interesting if any patterns emerged, if any, on what types of claims get settled relatively quickly or slowly. Data is tied up in stories here though so it might be a good idea to crowd source bare facts in anither article on types of claim, handling times, and outcomes.

    Why doesn’t UK261 detail timescales for payment ? What are the legislators waiting for?

      It doesn’t, but you don’t have to wait that long as people do here. You don’t even need to contact BA customer services. Just send them letter before action, give them 14 days to respond then start the MCOL claim on day 15 or 16 and then the process is 28 days (14+14 if BA asks for an extension) maximum.

      You can go to CEDR after 8 weeks of no response.

    I had my flight cancelled precisely two weeks ago. I claimed my compensation the next day. They have since emailed to confirm settlement and paid the money into by bank account. I was surprised at the efficiency! It was a simple case it’s a shame it doesn’t sound consistently that efficient!

    Good luck getting into Plaza Premium – since it came back to Priority Pass it’s been really busy and often has a waitlist. Was far better when the entry was via Amex Plat as you could be certain of getting in. The size of the BA lounge is due to the very large number of GCH compared to other routes!

    My claim for compensation back in September took exactly 10 days from raising the complaint to getting my money in my account. Gold status helped I reckon.

    Travelled on a BA holiday with car hire for required 5 days & returned November 7th. Within 2 weeks we got our double tier points for our outward journey. Nearly 3 weeks after our inward journey and still waiting for our double tier points. As silver members we need this extra tier points to retain our silver membership. Tried calling various BA numbers no one can help and keep referring us elsewhere 😡

      The double TP are supposed to be posted within 14 working days of the return flight. If they don’t post by next Wednesday send your membership number, date of birth, email address and postcode for each passenger in the reservation to exec-club.socialmedia@ba.com

    Had delayed flight of 5 hours on short haul, plane gone tech.
    Claim put in on 18th Nov and got email 23rd Nov it was approved.
    Not sure if it matter but I’m gold.

    We had a BA Holiday flight from LHR to MSY via DFW cancelled and we were downgraded to Business class. Lost luggage going out and on return flight.
    The reconciliation of tier points and Avios took about 4 weeks, compensation for luggage about 6 weeks, and 75% comp for downgrade 8 weeks. It took BA six weeks to advise me to contact BA holidays for the downgrade compensation.
    The worst of pretty shabby service though was the lost luggage handling agent BA use at MCR (our final destination). The luggage arrived with them 2 days after we arrived. It then took them 1 week to deliver it out. Impossible to contact them unless you hang on a premium cost line for ages. If you want to see some appalling reviews look up Eagle Aviation. Why BA entrust their reputation with a company like that can only be for cheapness and not customer service (which always seems to come last with BA these days).
