WestJet is expanding its UK flights to Canada next year

Canadian airline WestJet is planning extra European flights next summer with the introduction of two brand new seasonal routes as well as the return of five routes which didn’t operate this year.

A few years ago, WestJet consolidated its operations at Calgary Airport after trialling non-stop transatlantic flights from Toronto and other major airports in Eastern Canada. Next summer’s schedule suggests that WestJet hasn’t given up on the Eastern seaboard entirely.

New routes include:

WestJet adds extra UK flights for 2024
  • Edinburgh – Halifax (3 weekly, starting 21st June)
  • Reykjavik – Calgary (4 weekly, starting 16th May)

Routes returning from previous years – but which didn’t run in 2023 – include:

  • Dublin – Halifax (4 weekly, starting 20th June)
  • Dublin – Toronto (daily, starting 2nd March)
  • Edinburgh – Toronto (daily, starting 15th May)
  • London Gatwick – Halifax (4 weekly, starting 29th April)
  • London Gatwick – St Johns (3 weekly, starting 1st May)

Note that ALL these new routes are operated by Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which do NOT feature lie-flat business class seats. The aircraft also come with 12 Premium economy seats and 162 economy seats.

If you want to try WestJet’s lie-flat business class product, you’ll need to fly from Calgary. From Calgary, WestJet offers flights to:

  • Edinburgh (4 weekly)
  • Dublin (5 weekly)
  • London Heathrow (daily)

…. all using three-class Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Paris, Barcelona and Rome are also options.

WestJet is NOT in any airline alliance so there is no easy way of earning or spending miles in a major frequent flyer programme. (EDIT: I forgot that WestJet is a partner in the Air France / KLM Flying Blue scheme.)

You can redeem Qantas FF points (available via an Amex MR transfer) on WestJet. No idea on availability though.

There is also currently an eBay Nectar offer – 5× Nectar bonus points. Early Black Friday boost ends 23 Nov. Spend £10+ on 1 item. Need to activate the offer on your home page.

I believe you can spend Delta miles in economy only on Westjet.

I’ve booked a few WestJet flights using Qantas frequent flyer. Just a shame that the Toronto route isn’t returning from London as they were my carrier of choice when operating.

    Interesting attempt at spelling Reykjavík

I wish BA would resume flights to Calgary, it’s a popular trip to go into Vancouver and return from Calgary or vice Versa.

  • TooPoorToBeHere says:

I do have the targeted Amex offer.

Every item I tried to pay on ebay this week, Amex is greyed out.

Good old Amex, even the merchants they promote don’t take their useless card.

    • Andrew. says:

That’s odd. Have you tried deleting your saved cards and re-adding?

Paid fine with AMEX and used the offer on the day it appeared.

  • Nick says:

Have BA AMEX Premium Plus, currently not targeted for eBay offer 🙁
