Earn double Nectar points in June when you make a conversion to Avios

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Avios and Nectar have launched a new promotion to promote the tie-up between the two programmes.

As a reminder, you can:

  • convert Nectar points to Avios at the rate of 400 : 250
  • convert Avios to Nectar points at the rate of 300 : 400
Double Nectar points with an Avios conversion

Conversion from Nectar are instant, whilst conversions from Avios take 10+ days due to fraud checks. You can find out more, and convert in either direction, via this page of ba.com.

Remember that Nectar points are worth a flat 0.5p each when spent at Sainsburys, Argos or ebay.co.uk. This means that you can ‘cash out’ Avios for 0.66p by transferring them into Nectar points. Never do any kind of Avios redemption which gets you less than 0.66p per Avios, because you would be better off converting to Nectar instead.

Get double Nectar points on shopping when you make an Avios conversion

This new promotion is a little complex but will be worthwhile for most readers.

Firstly, you need to transfer a minimum of 400 Nectar points into Avios.

(If you don’t have 400 Nectar points, stop reading now because you can’t take part.)

Secondly, you need to shop at Sainsbury’s, Argos, eBay and / or Esso during June.

You will receive double Nectar points at these four places for transactions made between the date of your Avios conversion and 30th June.

There aren’t many rules except:

  • only base Nectar points are doubled, not any promotional points earned during June
  • you cannot reverse the initial Avios conversion before 30th June – if you send any points in the other direction during the month it is likely to disqualify you from the bonus

The promotion is NOT restricted to ‘first time’ Nectar converters. Anyone can take part.

No-one is getting rich off this offer, but if you were likely to spend a few hundred points across Sainsbury’s, Argos, eBay and / or Esso this month – and have 400 Nectar points to hand to make the initial transfer – you might as well take part.

Further details can be found on the Nectar site here.

  • Ryan gill says:

The conversions stated are the right way around?

  • Roger that says:

So we temporarily return to the original earning rate before it was halved. 🙄

  • Will says:

Sainsbury energy gets triple base nectar. Does this stack?

    • Stu_N says:

It’s not on the list of participating partners so it won’t.

      • john says:

That’s not what he means.. Do you get the triple from energy and then also the double from this offer on your base purchase in store?

Usually their things like this don’t stack.

        • Will says:

Yep, asking if I would get quadruple base points. Given the hassle of getting these things corrected, I converted anyhow and we will see if it works

  • Lawrencd says:

And that reminded me to convert some nectar points so I have enough for a reward flight I want to book!

    Thanks!

  • ianM says:

Sounds like waaaay too much hassle

  • Tracey says:

4 x £50 shops in Sainsbury’s, extra base points = 200 points, worth £1 off shopping. Not really worth the effort.

    • Stu_N says:

Took me less than a minute – If your accounts are already linked, you could have pinged the Nectars across in the time it took to write that comment.

    • zapato1060 says:

It’s rubbish deal but not ‘not’ worth it.

  • krys_k says:

Is there ever likely to be a transfer bonus from Nectar to Avios?

    • Rob says:

Given that you could simply transfer them back to Nectar, and so print free money, I suggest not.

  • BSI1978 says:

Still annoying it supposedly takes them 10/12 days to undertake fraud checks…..!

Not sure I buy this tbh, once verified, how many more checks in the background are they actually undertaking?
