A week ago, British Airways announced a new partnership with Uber.

BA is promising 250 Avios just for registering, so this offer is of interest even if you are only an occasional Uber user.

You couldn’t register when the deal was announced, but iPhone users who downloaded the app update released yesterday CAN now register. It also seems to have activated for Android users in the last day or so.

EDIT: Some people cannot register for the offer. From our comments, we have deduced that you cannot register if your last Uber ride was outside the UK, even if your account is linked to a UK mobile number. If you take an Uber ride in the UK it should appear.

Earn Avios from Uber

How does the Avios / Uber deal work?

The new Uber deal will let you collect 1 Avios for every £1 you spend on travel in the UK via the Uber app.

As well as rides, you will also earn on coach and train tickets booked via the app in the UK.

You do not earn anything for Uber Eats orders.

As a launch bonus, everyone who links their British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts via the Uber app by 31st December will receive 250 bonus Avios.

How do you register?

iPhone users need the app update released yesterday, version 3.536.10003 (which, I note, is a shocking 361MB – that is a ludicrous 7,500 times bigger than the entire memory of my old 48k ZX Spectrum computer in the mid 1980s!).

Open the app and click ‘Account’ in the bottom right, followed by ‘Settings’. You will see this:

Collect Avios from Uber

Click through and you’ll be taken to a page where you can link your Uber account to your British Airways account.

It isn’t clear how long it will take for the 250 Avios for registration to appear, but based on what we have been told it does NOT require you to take a ride before they appear.

read above —- backed off over possible intrusive Q’s ….

    • Simon says:

Me too! I came on to see if anyone else was not seeing the link on the Exec Rewards app (doh)! As I have never used Uber I didn’t even think of the fact they have an App. (Note to self – ask Rob to write more specific articles i.e. which App we are using, for the numpties in his audience!

  • Rich says:

I have and Iphone 14 Pro, the latest IOS and the latest Uber update and I am also not seeing this. I’m guessing as I have been using Uber in Portugal recently. I’m back at my home in the UK now, is there any workaround for this? Is it worth contacting Uber? Thanks.

  • Zara says:

Perfect worked well Thanks. I found it in uber Android app under settings. All of the data which is requested unfortunately is the same for any “partner” company which will update your Avios account. You should have a look at any game app permissions which have more data access to your life on your phone than the BA account.

  • Shamraz says:

Just re-downloaded the Uber app as I’m an occasional user and no offer for me.

  • can says:

I have a feeling that, if you are like me and used Uber last time abroad, the offer won’t show. It may show after you use Uber in the UK.
    Anyone tried it?

    • meta says:

I did late this morning and still not showing. I’ve contacted Uber support, but no response.

    • Rob says:

Possible. I used it in New York two weeks ago but also took one back from Heathrow, and it shows for me.

  • Flightsy says:

My Uber App had the option to allow me to link by BAEC account, but not my husband. Both of us have the latest version of the Uber App – very strange. However I think @can might be right – I used Uber recently in the UK, but my husband last used Uber in Istanbul a few weeks ago, so it probably thinks he’s not a UK user.

  • Prakash says:

    Just linked with my android!

  • Skywalker says:

For those of you having previously used Uber abroad and keen to participate in this offer, if you are not too attached to your old Uber accounts, would it work if you simply set up shiny new Uber accounts with different email address for this purpose, or is there some other phone/tech barrier stopping you from registering?

    • meta says:

I think Uber accounts are linked to a phone number rather than email address.

I have contacted Uber support which are totally useless.

      • Skywalker says:

Got it – then what about those of you with second numbers – does this work, then?

        • TGLoyalty says:

Yes you can set up a new account with a second number.

Might be better switching your old account to the other number then setting up a new one with your main number as you’ll want the Uber driver to contact you?

Or just contact Uber and ask them to chang E your account to U.K. based

    • Mike says:

I’ve used Uber when in the US this year, and obviously in the UK, and had no issues, so I’m not sure that’s the problem.
