A week ago, British Airways announced a new partnership with Uber.

BA is promising 250 Avios just for registering, so this offer is of interest even if you are only an occasional Uber user.

You couldn’t register when the deal was announced, but iPhone users who downloaded the app update released yesterday CAN now register. It also seems to have activated for Android users in the last day or so.

EDIT: Some people cannot register for the offer. From our comments, we have deduced that you cannot register if your last Uber ride was outside the UK, even if your account is linked to a UK mobile number. If you take an Uber ride in the UK it should appear.

Earn Avios from Uber

How does the Avios / Uber deal work?

The new Uber deal will let you collect 1 Avios for every £1 you spend on travel in the UK via the Uber app.

As well as rides, you will also earn on coach and train tickets booked via the app in the UK.

You do not earn anything for Uber Eats orders.

As a launch bonus, everyone who links their British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts via the Uber app by 31st December will receive 250 bonus Avios.

How do you register?

iPhone users need the app update released yesterday, version 3.536.10003 (which, I note, is a shocking 361MB – that is a ludicrous 7,500 times bigger than the entire memory of my old 48k ZX Spectrum computer in the mid 1980s!).

Open the app and click ‘Account’ in the bottom right, followed by ‘Settings’. You will see this:

Collect Avios from Uber

Click through and you’ll be taken to a page where you can link your Uber account to your British Airways account.

It isn’t clear how long it will take for the 250 Avios for registration to appear, but based on what we have been told it does NOT require you to take a ride before they appear.

Like others, I’m based in the UK with an iPhone 12 and latest app version just updated – still can’t see the option to link both accounts under Settings.

  • Panda Mick says:

I got excited about this yesterday, and, having started at page 1 of the comments, took the time to think about the blatant data grab that Uber are being allowed to do. Blatant is a strong word, I know. But in a day and age when data breaches seem to happen on a daily basis, I’m with PlaneSpeaking on this. For this to have happened, BA is probably being paid handsomely for access to this data

Yes, BA. Custodians of an amazing data breach in the not to distant past.

And you’ve all sold your souls (and data) for 250 Avios.

  • Mikeact says:

    I’m on Android 13
Two Uber offers shown…Uber Kids and Uber Eats, and that’s it.

  • Indy500 says:

Having listened to others here talking about the data access [who evidently know more about this stuff than me….] I’ll swerve it for 250 points. I get twice that every week through Sainsbury’s alone so it isn’t worth it IMHO.

  • Kathryn says:

Yes agree, I wasn’t happy with the access to my BA information so did not allow.

  • AMP says:

Another good example why there ought to be faster regulatory progress in the pricing and transparency of personal data. In studies it has been shown that individuals massively underprice their personal data when given ‘freebies’ as opposed to cash. We should move to a model where an individual has the ability to sell / auction the precise amount of personal information and data they are happy to share. The amount of data one would be sharing if you link the Uber account with your BA account is an insult … a bonus of 250 Avios and then 1 Avios per £1 spend ie in line with what BA will be moving to in the new year … for a lot of personal information that allows Uber to arbitrage pricing, sell marketing, bombard you with alerts for what is essentially worth £2.50 and 1% discount ongoing …

  • MiddleEngland says:

Opened App, clicked through as requested in Settings, signed up and done. Less than a minute.

  • Willie says:

Are you able to link multiple accounts to your one BA Exec Club account? Not just for the 20×250 but for my staff accounts

    • Rob says:

Worth a try – remains to be seen if there needs to be a name match or similar.

      • meta says:

No, read T&C only one account per BAEC number. You can also unlink only once per 12 months.

I made sure to check all the T&Cs given Qatar Airways fiasco.

        • Marc says:

          Qatar Airways fiasco?

          • meta says:

If you unlink twice Qatar Airways and BAEC you are banned from linking for 50 (fifty) years. I did it twice and now I am banned for (almost) life. QR refuses to allow me to link once more.

There was no warning about this when you linked, it was buried in T&C (although now they might have changed that).
