(DEAL DEAD) BE QUICK: Most IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I am typing this on Sunday afternoon – it’s not clear how long this deal will last.

EDIT: It died around 8pm on Sunday

Most IHG hotels globally, for all dates (albeit not the very short term), are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

I just booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a week or so ago, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

You can even lock in the Maldives etc at hugely discounted rates.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Should you buy points?

Today (Sunday) is the last day to get a 100% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who have done it say that they are posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others.

With the bonus you’re paying around 0.4p per point so, for example, my Kimpton Paris stay – which is €660 for cash – would need £180-worth of purchased points.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it.

  • Alex W says:

Brilliant deal, thanks HFP! Booked 8 nights in Boston, 160k pts instead of £2,160. Made a couple of speculative bookings as well. Very chuffed! This feels like payback for IC Rome not opening on time.

    • DoubleA says:

Where/when did you book in Boston Alex? I was stalking my existing Oct booking at the IC, but no luck.

  • Lady London says:

Thank you very much Rob. With my tiny stash of points I was able to take a very few 1-off nights in London on some dates in case of need. Hotel will be happy if I cancel, I will be happy if I stay or not.

  • Lady London says:

What’s next then Rob? I was lucky as I looked into the Forum in the afternoon to see if there was anything new on what appeared to be a very lazy Sunday. Saw the new article headlined there (I hadn’t been going to look again at the main site). Sunday being normally quiet, there will be a few long faces tomorrow on HfP.

I think you may have scooped that other site BJ likes too :-). What’s next, Rob : the HfP app? No pressure 🙂

  • meta says:

My reservation for IC Rome displays *** for the price in points whereas usually it would display the amount in points. Is it the same for everyone?

    • DZOO says:

Looks fine in the app for me

    • DZOO says:

      and on the website

    • Jon says:

*** now showing on all reservations I made today under this deal when viewing in the app

      • meta says:

Yes, it’s just in the app for me too.

        • Rob says:

          Shows fine on desktop.

Looking forward to my Kimpton Mallorca jaunt next month – will be a good chance to review a hotel that’s only two weeks old and for 45k points (instead of €550) per night I’m happy to self-fund the trip to avoid having to negotiate with IHG for a press trip.

Also very happy with Kimpton Paris at 45k – I needed 2 nights on a specific day in October for the family and was struggling to find something that worked given the cash alternatives and lack of reward nights at IC LeG.

Finally my brother has IC Park Lane when he comes down for Wimbledon next Summer (had DoubleTree West End this year!) and I’ve pencilled in a couple of Dubai nights which I admittedly may end up cancelling but am happy to have as fall back in case I can’t get a deal elsewhere.

          • NorthernLass says:

Does your brother’s booking say “Cosy, pet friendly room”? I am now worried in case we are allocated a broom cupboard which smells of dogs …

  • R says:

Looks like I stumbled on this by accident. Got a hotel in Miami for one night in November (pre Virgin cruise) for 13k points. Atwell Suites. Never heard of it but at 13k points inc. brekkie, and only for a night, I couldn’t resist how cheap it was, even if it’s crap!

  • David says:

Thanks Rob. I have £3500 worth of IC rooms for 240 000 points.

  • Jordan D says:

Alerted to this and made a speculative booking for Santiago (Chile) at 35k pts/night for the IC there.

Checked again now – down to 26k pts/night. Guess a cancellation and rebook it is…!

  • Peggerz says:

Thanks Rob. Still alive at 00:45BST. 3 nights IC Seoul for 78k. Lovely.
