Apologies for application issues with Barclaycard Avios Mastercard

Yesterday we ran three articles on the brand new, and very exciting, Barclaycard Avios Mastercard credit cards.

As soon as we’d published them, the Barclaycard application website collapsed. At the time of writing (10pm) it is still not fully functioning. It may or may not be working when you read this.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience. We are in close contact with Barclaycard and as soon as everything is good to go we will let you know.

Are you an existing Barclaycard holder?

In our article yesterday we said that existing Barclaycard holders would need to cancel their card and wait six months if they wanted the sign-up bonus on the new card.

It turns out that Barclaycard has a Plan B for existing cardholders which will go live in a few days. We should be able to share full details soon, but basically there will be a route which will allow you to get the Avios cards and receive a bonus. It will be a smaller bonus than the one given to new customers, but it will be better than nothing. We will run an article on this as soon as the process is live.

For everyone else …. we’ll let you know as soon as applications are open.

If you want to try again now, in case it got fixed overnight, you can apply for the free Barclaycard Avios credit card (5,000 Avios bonus) here. You can apply for the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card (25,000 Avios bonus) here.

If you missed our content yesterday, the first of our three articles on the Barclaycard Avios Mastercards is here.

    Hi,
I’ve just managed to apply now via mobile. The desktop site was still crashing but mobile was ok immediately.

  • Bagoly says:

The power of HfP demonstrated again 🙂

  • ffwd says:

Application working this morning, just did one via your link.

    • Rob says:

      Thanks

      • Roberto says:

Rob could u find out if no email has been received does it mean the application has got to be done again?
Not sure what do as everything went through on the application but I received no email.

        • cjguk says:

My email took around 4 hours to arrive after completing the application

  • Andrew J says:

I must have missed that in the myriad responses on the articles yesterday. I wonder why Rob didn’t include the numbers in the article today then if it’s in the Barclaycard press release.

    • Rob says:

There is more to it, that’s why. We have a call AM to find out exactly who qualifies and how.

  • Barnaby100 says:

I would think many people over 40 have a Barclaycard even if not active. Not used ours for at least 5 years. They no longer send a card but the account is still active. It was always a safe back up card.

  • Chas says:

Link working and application worked. @Rob – I’ve an observation about the process which I’ll e-mail you about….

    • Chas says:

I spoke too soon… I got a credit limit of just £200 until I uploaded my proof of income. I took too long to gather that proof, and by the time I clicked submit the page had expired. I haven’t received the e-mail that they said they’d send to upload the documents if I hadn’t wanted to do so later. I’m in a Catch-22 situation; if I don’t upload the docs within 45 days my account is automatically closed, and yet I can’t hit the SUB spend with a limit of just £200…

      • Chas says:

I’ve now had my e-mail through, and I can get to the landing page where I enter reference number. But after that the wheels fall off again, and I get an error message again: “Sorry, something’s gone wrong. We’re trying to fix the error as quickly as possible and haven’t stored your details. Please click on the button below to try again.” It’s a shambles. If I’m ever able to grab the 25k SUB, I can’t see me sticking with this lot for long…

  • Ls says:

Does this process for existing customers allow keeping the current Barclaycard? Or will it need to be closed.

    • Rob says:

We will find out this morning.

      • Rob says:

Update: we will now find out on Thursday. Barclays has cancelled the launch of offer for existing cardholders whilst they deal with the fallout from yesterday.

        • T says:

PMO been sleeping on this project big time it seems!! For all the bells and whistles on launch day this seems to be poor execution of a go live!

  • Mr(s) Entitled says:

Do you keep the voucher if you cancel the card?
