There are strong rumours tonight that American Express is about to launch a £200 dining credit for The Platinum Card holders.

You will receive 100% back when you spend at participating restaurants, up to a cumulative £200. Centurion cardholders will receive a £400 credit.

The offer will run from tomorrow until the end of 2021.

EDIT Wed AM: This offer is now live and you can add it via the ‘Offers’ section of your card.

The participating restaurants are here.

If you’re in London, you’re laughing. The list of restaurants is simply outstanding, from 3-star Michelin restaurants through to more casual groups such as The Ivy.

The Ivy Harrogate is pictured above – there are a fair number of non-London restaurants included although there do seem to be big geographic gaps.

There are over 1,000 participating restaurants across 15 countries. Here is a random London selection for the letter ‘B’:

  • Bagatelle
  • Balthazar
  • Bar des Pres
  • Bluebird
  • Benares
  • Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill
  • Bob Bob Ricard
  • Brasserie Zedel
  • Bread Street Kitchen
  • Butlers Wharf Chophouse

…. and that is just ‘B’.

Full details should be released on Wednesday, but you can look at the restaurant list here.

I just checked and the Birmingham UK restaurants have been removed from the Alabama city but not added to the UK one.

  • Richard S says:

Black card is better, despite the fee. Concierge service superb.

    • Matthew Bell says:

Don’t doubt you but do you have an example of how superb they can be with the black card?

  • Grant Cooper says:

Offer didn’t appear on my card, went on live chat and they added it manually

  • Jonathan Winters says:

For anyone who may like to know, this isn’t available on the ICC Plat.

  • Keith C says:

Is this a ‘targeted’ offer, or was there a cut-off date for Platinum membership to be eligible?

Either way, the heading is misleading giving no indication that current Platinum cardholders may be ineligible.

    • Rob says:

The article was published before the offer launched, if you look at the date, so it was correct as everyone who read it on that day was eligible 🙂

      • Keith C says:

The article was published on 31 August. I have had the Platinum card since before 31st August, and I do not have the offer available on my card. Therefore I stand by my point..

        • Rob says:

In that case, give them a call and Amex will add it. We have a few readers in the same boat but everyone has had it added when they rang. Seems to be an IT issue.

        • Matthew Bell says:

I just got the Platinum card today and got my offer added via the chat function in the app – it’s very easy

  • RP says:

Signed up for the card on Wednesday, card received today and dining offer added through live chat this afternoon. We were planning to take a card out at some point and this offer clinched it!

    • Matthew Bell says:

Cheers for the story I now went and got the offer added too – what a deal!

  • NB says:

Thanks for sharing! Is this one credit of £200? So almost one free meal if you do well?

  • TGH says:

I know it’s been said above, but worth repeating. The wording on this offer is pretty poor. “Get 100% back every time, up to £200”. Anyone would be forgiven for thinking this was a rebate of up to £200 every time you visited one of the participating restaurants. Given the relatively medium-high to high level of restaurants included in the offer, Amex must know this credit will most likely be used up in one hit, so the phrase ‘every time’ is a bit misleading
