Which InterContinental hotels give FREE club lounge access via a ‘preferred partner’ agent?

You may not know that you can get free access to club lounges at some InterContinental hotels if you book via a travel agent who is affiliated to the exclusive Virtuoso network.

This is a benefit which is well worth knowing about, because IHG / InterContinental does not offer lounge access to top-tier members of its IHG One Rewards programme unless you take it as a 40 night ‘milestone bonus’.

IHG does offer InterContinental lounge access to Royal Ambassador cardholders.  This requires a high level – into US$ five figures it seems – of annual spend across InterContinental, Kimpton and Regent to qualify, so don’t pin your hopes on that.

Luckily, there is a way around this.  A handful of top InterContinental hotels are part of the Virtuoso luxury hotels network.  These can only be booked by a closed network of hand-picked travel agents, of which our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas is one of the few in the UK.

The following InterContinental hotels will give you guaranteed lounge access if you book them via Emyr (details here).

The price will usually be Best Flexible Rate.  If you were booking a flexible rate anyway then this is a genuinely free extra bonus.  If you would otherwise book Advanced Purchase (non-refundable) rates then you will pay a little more but you are getting a substantial list of extra benefits which should easily offset the cost.

For clarity, you WILL earn IHG One Rewards points on these rates.  If you are also InterContinental Ambassador, my experience is that the hotels will often upgrade you an additional level, as Virtuoso bookings also come with an upgrade.

These InterContinental hotels offer free lounge access on Virtuoso agent bookings:

  • Phillip says:

The Club lounge at the Barclay puts on an impressive food spread (by US standards). The breakfast selection is better than any buffet I have seen in the US, club or otherwise!

    • Greg says:

The Intercontinental Los Angeles has the best breakfase I have experienced anywhere so far.

  • Gordon says:

“daily housekeeping / evening turn down upon guest request”

I thought this was a given at a five star property, that’s why these properties are five star?

I’ve seen housekeeping especially in budget hotels, offer this service on request, this has carried on from the pandemic, and stayed with us, this is green tick for the environment.

the budget properties I’ve stayed at in Germany, offer a donation to charity for the days you do not require housekeeping, I have also seen this option at a few in the UK.

  • Nick G says:

Dare I ask what is the status with children (age 10) accessing the club lounges at the above locations (in company with adults of course)?

    • Rob says:

Rarely an issue – taken my kids in many – but will vary, especially due to local laws on having kids in rooms with unsupervised booze.

  • JohnTh says:

Unfortunately I don’t believe the Virtuoso rates include use of the Ambassador free w/e night?
    Good to know though!

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

      They don’t.

You can only use the weekend free night vouvher by booking via IHG

  • jj says:

Interesting that the IC Park Lane isn’t included in the Amex FHR programme, so Platinum card holders get a much worse deal than those booking through a Virtuoso agent. I usually check both options for suitable hotels, and, in my experience, that’s rare but worth noting.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Contact IC PL directly you might be surprised. Also the only extra guarantee via FHR is 4pm checkout which Ambassador members get anyway

  • lumma says:

I preferred the hotel indigo in Madrid over the intercontinental

    • HampshireHog says:

Yes the IC is well out of town and not walkable. Meliá has better options

  • Mark Potts says:

Anyone know how the Las Vegas (Intercontinental alliance) hotels treat platinum ambassadors with the 40 night lounge pass will treat guests staying on a conference rate? Will I be able to show my lounge pass and get lounge access?

    • LittleNick says:

I could be wrong but being an alliance hotel, diamond breakfast benefit is excluded, and wouldn’t be surprised if they try and squirm out of providing the lounge benefit. Unless it’s explicitly stated it’s included don’t expect them to honour it
