American Express has launched a bonus Avios offer for British Airways American Express cardholders.

It is restricted to 80,000 cardholders so I recommend that you register now before Amex emails everyone about it.

This is how it works:

  • You receive 2 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend
  • This is on top of your 1.5 Avios per £1, or 3 Avios per £1 for ba.com spending
  • The bonus is capped at 4,000 Avios, representing £2,000 of spending
  • The promotion ends on 15th June
  • Spending by supplementary cardholders does not count – this is not mentioned made clear online

To register, go to the American Express website here, log in to your British Airways Premium Plus account and look in your offers section.

  • Tom says:

Shocking from AMEX but the urgency on here to save the offer before the other 79,999 members makes me laugh. I think you’ll find the vast majority of AMEX cardholders don’t sit refreshing this website every 15 minutes 😛

    • Aston100 says:

But perhaps they check their Amex offers directly without visiting HfP?

      • Tom says:

To be fair I check the offers section most days but I still think that sort of behaviour is more likely to be seen with HfP readers!

      • Rob says:

Amex will email everyone at some point today or tomorrow, I imagine.

You’d also be missing out on bonus Avios for buying your lunch today!

        • Doug M says:

My emails from Amex for offers tend to come in bunches, and don’t reflect the situation. Often referring to offers already used, or ones that have been on the account for several weeks.

    • Tariq says:

Once it hits HUKD I imagine it’ll sell out pretty quickly.

      • CarpalTravel says:

Scary the traffic power that site has, shame it’s a shadow of its former self. Very biased towards certainly retailers now. Possibly gamed. I’ve had many posts deleted referring to legitimate traders who have had better prices or better options but clearly don’t provide them with the same level of referral bonus. Plus the comments section is now a cesspool. Real shame.

  • Aston100 says:

Made a purchase just now, and got an email confirming I’ve used this offer.
It was a purchase of under £100.

    • Ray says:

Yes same here, hope it’s not a single purchase offer – I was under the impression that multiple transactions could take it up to the £2000 limit?

  • NFH says:

Another error in Amex’s T&Cs for these offers is that Amex believes that GBP stands for “Great British Pound“. Amex’s error reminds me of Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ “Great British Air” in Come Fly With Me on BBC1 ten years ago.

Of course, ISO4217 currency codes are formed from a two-letter ISO3166 country code followed by the first initial of the currency name, and GBP is Pound Sterling. I wonder what Amex thinks JPY, CHF, ZAR, AED, KYD, LKR and DZD stand for.

    • Aston100 says:

      Ah… come fly with me.
They’d never get away with making a show like that again.

      • Andrew says:

Or even showing it, it’s been taken down from all the streaming platforms.

        • Aston100 says:

I watched the ‘Martin Clunes song’ sketch recently.
          I was embarrassed.
Goes to show how quickly times have changed, as when I watched that the first time round, it seemed hilarious.

  • HB13 says:

I think we should know whether it is an extra 2 points per pound or 0.5 in the next few days when we spend and see the avios earnt. Hopefully its 2 extra points!

  • PaulC says:

Only showing in the account holders offers, not on my supplementary card.

    • Mark says:

On my wife’s Premium Plus card as well. Presumably that means only the account holders will get the bonus avios…

  • exEDI says:

Offer doesn’t appear for me on the website or in the App. Just upgraded to BPP end of last week. Is this targeted or have I missed out on the 80K slots?

    • Rob says:

Possible Amex set this up before you upgraded so you were not on the list.

    • Genghis says:

As a data point, my wife applied for BAPP last Monday and card registered on Thursday and offer showing OK.

  • Chris says:

Offer only appears on my main cardholder account, not supplementary

  • PJS says:

Just used my BAPP in Waitrose, Amex confirmation email said “Get 2 additional Avios”.

    • Aston100 says:

      Did it really say that?
My email said “You just used your Avios offer”
      and then:
“Spend £1 anywhere get 2 Avios up to 4000 Avios”

      • Aston100 says:

Though given the t&cs in the email included this line:
“2 flat Avios will be rewarded upon spend of £1 per UK Card up to 4000 Avios”.
Which makes me reasonably confident I will be getting 1.5 + 1 (retention offer) + 2 (this new offer) = 4.5 avios per pound spent.
However, I am unsure if this only applies for the first £2k spent, but it seems that way IMO.

      • Andrew says:

        Yup. Mine says:

Get 2 additional Avios for every £1 spent anywhere, up to 4000 Avios
Thank you for using your American Express Card ending xxxxx at Avios. If your transaction meets the offer terms, your credit should appear on your statement within 5 business days (however it can take up to 90 days from the offer end date).

Although I didn’t use the card at “Avios” but rather at Tesco.
