Hilton is opening a hotel in the Faroe Islands.

Full details are on hilton.com here. The opening date is pencilled in for 20th October.

To quote:

“Rest well at our new hotel in Torshavn, just five minutes from the beautiful Svartafoss Waterfall, Nordic House, and the National Museum of the Faroe Islands. There’s plenty of shopping, natural areas, and restaurants within a few minutes, and you can get around easily with a bus stop outside our doors. Our on-site restaurant features local produce and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

Whilst technically part of Denmark, the Faroe Islands are actually very close to the UK.

According to visitfaroeislands.com, Atlantic Airways – the official carrier of the island – operates 1-hour non-stop flights from Edinburgh to the Faroe Islands twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. Flights resume from mid October.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (April 2025)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.

You also receive FREE Hilton Honors status for as long as you hold the debit cards – Gold status with the Plus card and Silver status with the basic card. This is a great reason to apply even if you rarely use it.

SPECIAL OFFER: Until 30th April 2025, the annual fee on the basic Hilton Honors debit card is halved from £60 to £30. There is another way of getting Hilton Honors status, and earning Hilton Honors points, from a payment card.

Holders of The Platinum Card from American Express receive FREE Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Radisson Rewards Premium and MeliaRewards Gold status.

    Any immediate preference between Indigo Kensington and nearby Crowne Plaza?
    Both have double-doubles on offer, CP is GBP20 more, for club.

    Fancy something different? Instead of Atlantic Airways, take the Smyril Line Norrona ferry from Hirtshals in Denmark to Torshavn. Its not a cruise ship, but is more than acceptable. Need creature comforts? The ship has one large suite, with its own huge ensuite, and out of season its not that expensive. Book early. Smyril Line very helpful.
    The Norrona goes on from Torshavn to Seyðisfjörður, in Eastern Iceland, then returns to Torshavn, then its back to Hirtshals. We took a round trip “cruise” package that included all meals, and all off ship tours. It was a 10/10 experience. I suspect that they will develop new packages to go with the Hilton that will allow for more time on the Faroes.
    Hirtshals in on the northern tip of Denmark. Awkward to get to. Its on the DSB rail network. Outbound we took the train from CPH, spending time and an overnight in Aalborg (Scandic Allborg City), and returned using the train to Aalborg, and thenthe Kombardo Expressen bus / ferry service from Aalborg to Copenhagen.
    We did look at SunAir, but at the time there were no services that would fit in with the Norrona sailing times.

    I agree I’m not happy with their attitude to the whale hunt. I watched a program and although they were saying they use a weapon for fast kill, there was a lot of evidence that a lot of people were not so it was torture and the islanders don’t seem to care because gods forbid anyone may have to change their ways. Humans are doomed and we deserve it. Possibly the only species to cause our own extinction in the near future.

    @MKCOL, agree with you on this. I had been interested some years ago in visiting the Faroes, and I know not every country I visit is as ethically sound as I’d like, but this put me off.

    Would never ever think about visiting the Faroe Islands, the link you posted is quite tame, there are far worse images, video’s out there to be seen, they call this inhumane slaughter of Whales, Dolphins the Grindadráp and their pathetic excuse for this is because it is a tradition, it’s 2020 believe it or not . As the heading in the above link say’s there are better countries to spend your money than the Faroe Islands.

      I thought whale hunting was strictly controlled these days? Quite a few folk on here love Japan, and I think the Japanese are still allowed to hunt whales at certain times. I personally don’t agree with killing anything unless you absolutely can’t replace it with a sustainable food source, which covers most hunting activities. In the Cayman Islands they eat turtle meat, which I find deeply icky, but the turtles are farmed for food and they release a lot into the sea as well so I think ethically it’s no different from eating farmed cattle or salmon. I’d much rather turtles & whales were in the sea than on a market stall though!

        Yeah, you’re clicking something wrong there. Exec Seaview is £64.50 pn on the 2for1. Same room on best flex is £129 pn for the non-member rate.

    Hugh will probably pop up and mock me mercilessly but I have been reading recently about how the Irish and Scandinavians navigated to North America in the Middle Ages by diving the journey into segments and stopping off e route at Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. So this article did make me wonder if there are any discernible traces of those voyages on the islands.

      Iceland was settled by Scandinavians in the 9th Century.
      Greenland was reached in 10th Century (Inuit there already) and from there Leif Eriksson went to North America.
      Norse archeological site at L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland dating from roughly 1000AD

    I very rarely use IHG, just saw this deal and though ok I’ll have a look and the search is on the ‘limited time offer’ and shows price for Intercontinental London on Oct 30/31 as £197.50 under the August 24 offer but then when you click to proceed it still talks about August 24 offer but cost is then £395. Terrible user journey by IHG there!

      £395 is be the cost for the 2 nights at £197.50 per night! I think people are getting confused and not reaslising that the price shown is per night, under the offer terms. That’s still pretty reasonable if it’s the IC Park Lane during half term week.
