Norwegian to resume long-haul flights from London Gatwick in December

The vast majority of Norwegian’s long-haul network from the UK is to the US.

This makes operating these routes very difficult given the travel ban implemented by the US on European travellers, the increasing rates of coronavirus and the 14 days quarantine you would have to undertake on your return to the UK.

Whilst Norwegian had previously said that it would not return to UK long-haul flying until April 2021, it now appears to have revised its predictions.

It has updated its schedules with some routes now available for booking.  The following are now scheduled to restart from Gatwick, according to Routes Online, in the week commencing 9th December:

Boston – 1 daily (decreases to 5 weekly between 7th January and 27th March)
Los Angeles – 9 weekly (decreases to 5 weekly between 11th January and 14th February)
Miami – 1 daily (decreases to 5 weekly 12th January to 22nd February)
New York – 3 daily (decreases to 16 weekly between 9th January and 27th March)
Orlando – 6 weekly (decreases to 3 weekly between 11th January and 21st February)
San Francisco – 4 weekly (decreases to 3 weekly 19th January to 23rd February)
Tampa – 3 weekly (decreases to 2 weekly 11th January to 27th March)

Whether this actually happens, of course, is another question.

Buying flights on British Airways?

The British Airways Premium Plus American Express card earns double Avios (3 Avios per £1) when used at ba.com.

The card comes with a sign-up bonus of 30,000 Avios. The standard earning rate is 1.5 Avios per £1.

You do not earn bonus Avios if you pay for BA flights on the free British Airways American Express card or either of the Barclaycard Avios Mastercards.

Buying flights on Virgin Atlantic?

Both the free Virgin Atlantic Reward Mastercard and the annual fee Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Mastercard earn double Virgin Points when used at fly.virgin.com.

This means 1.5 Virgin Points per £1 on the free card and 3 Virgin Points per £1 on the paid card.

There is a sign-up bonus of 3,000 Virgin Points on the free card and 18,000 Virgin Points on the paid card.
