Norwegian to resume long-haul flights from London Gatwick in December

The vast majority of Norwegian’s long-haul network from the UK is to the US.

This makes operating these routes very difficult given the travel ban implemented by the US on European travellers, the increasing rates of coronavirus and the 14 days quarantine you would have to undertake on your return to the UK.

Whilst Norwegian had previously said that it would not return to UK long-haul flying until April 2021, it now appears to have revised its predictions.

It has updated its schedules with some routes now available for booking.  The following are now scheduled to restart from Gatwick, according to Routes Online, in the week commencing 9th December:

Boston – 1 daily (decreases to 5 weekly between 7th January and 27th March)
Los Angeles – 9 weekly (decreases to 5 weekly between 11th January and 14th February)
Miami – 1 daily (decreases to 5 weekly 12th January to 22nd February)
New York – 3 daily (decreases to 16 weekly between 9th January and 27th March)
Orlando – 6 weekly (decreases to 3 weekly between 11th January and 21st February)
San Francisco – 4 weekly (decreases to 3 weekly 19th January to 23rd February)
Tampa – 3 weekly (decreases to 2 weekly 11th January to 27th March)

Whether this actually happens, of course, is another question.

No chance of America being in a state to travel in Dec.

  • Phil G says:

Qatar’s lounge in T4 is one of the best. But I’m sure that will now disappear.

    • Rob says:

Unlikely – Qatar has been spending quite a bit of money extending it.

BA doesn’t want Terminal 5 running full – it doesn’t benefit anyone (apart from the money BA gets). There is a limit as to how busy T5 and T2 will be allowed to get, irrespective of the actual capacity.

That said, I agree that T3 is more likely to reopen before T4.

Lucky Rhys! Looking forward to the write-up!

When do people ‘think’ the US will open up once again (to all regular passenger flights) ?

Have heard various theories, including one that it could remain ‘closed’ until after the US Presidential election (3rd November)

  • Fred (Your comment is awaiting moderation) says:

Is the Premier Inn at LHR T4 still open and is it expected to remain open for the foreseeable future given T4 is winding down somewhat?

    • Roberto says:

PI T4 is open but T4 is not. You can not get in over the walk way and have to arrive via the backdoor near the carpark. The bus stops there of course ( 6 an hour ) or uber..

I have moved my booking away to the HGI at Hatton Cross. Slightly more but an easier connect.

Insta: With the BA, BA, BA stories every day you’d think Rhys would know it’s Club Europe not Club World?

  • ayearinmx says:

Anyone know if you get tier points flying with Air Baltic, booking using the BA website….

    • Steve Bull says:

No, air Baltic aren’t connected to BA in any way.

    • C77 says:

Yes you get the Avios and tier points so long as you book on the BA website with the BA flight numbers.
