Whilst most hotel chains have either extended their Spring promotions (Hilton) or are simply running without one at the moment (everyone else), World of Hyatt is carrying on as usual.
Hyatt has launched its new Summer promotion called ‘Bonus Journeys’. It is a generous one, especially if you have Hyatt status.
How does the new Hyatt promotion work?
Here are the key dates:
Register by 31st August
Stay between 15th June and 15th September
(Even during the current crisis, Hyatt can’t resist stuffing members who forget to register in time but find themselves having a stay in early September …..)
This is what you get:
Triple base points from your SECOND stay after registration
For elite members only, 2500 bonus points on your FIRST stay after registration
Note that reward nights DO count as ‘stays’. You would receive triple points on your first cash stay if you had previously done a reward stay during the promotional period. Elite members will receive the 2500 bonus points on their first stay even if it is a reward night.
Is this a good deal?
I think so, yes.
I value Hyatt points at around 1.1p. You can get 1.1p if you redeem Hyatt points for ‘in hotel’ credit in large chunks as I explained in this article.
You earn 5 base points per $1 spent. Under this promotion, you will be earning 15 base points per $1 from your second stay. This means you are getting (15 x 1.2p) 18p back for every $1 (78p) you spend. This is a 23% return on your spending.
Elite members will do even better with their status bonus.
The return is so high that you might want to consider a cheap mattress run (booking a hotel you don’t need, and quickly popping in to check-in before leaving) to get the ‘no-bonus first stay’ under your belt. There are now two cheap Hyatt Place hotels near Heathrow. You’d be crazy not to do this if you had an expensive four-figure Hyatt stay planned.
For elite members, the offer of 2,500 bonus points on your first stay is also generous. This is effectively worth £30, plus your elite status bonus, on what could be a very cheap room.
You MUST register in advance, which you can do on this page of the World of Hyatt website (for non elites) or this page of the World of Hyatt website (for elites).
Note two bits of small print: you are capped at 200,000 bonus points over the life of the offer, and the bonus only applies to one room per stay, irrespective of the number of rooms booked.
Remember that registration closes on 31st August, 15 days before the promotion ends.
