Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Important dates for your diary – offers about to close which you shouldn’t miss (November 2017)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here is the latest edition of our regular feature which summarises offers that are ending soon.

It pulls together the different deals mentioned on our Top Avios Points Earning Offers, Top Hotel Bonus Points Offers and Top UK Credit Card Offers pages.

Even though Black Friday was two days ago, many of the deals we wrote about are still running over the weekend.  I have not listed them again here because most are not ‘miles and points’ related, but you can check out the details in our Black Friday special coverage here (for hotels) and here (for everything else).

OT. No Marriott Twitter #RewardsPoints this week due to thanksgiving.

    • Liz says:

      Just seen that too!

    • Alan says:

      Nooooo!

    • Alan says:

About one month on, I’m STILL chasing up my missing 1k bonus points for >$25 purchase. Shockingly poor customer service!

      • mark2 says:

Mine have always posted within two hours; sometimes much less.

        • Alan says:

The base points posted fine, just not the first purchase bonus. Suspect it’s a currency issue – I spent £20, so over the $25 specified in the offer but if their system just took the number and didn’t convert the currency then it would be under 25. That’s poorly coded but fine, however the weeks to then sort it with little communication is less forgivable.

Wish Amazon was still an earning option with them, but clearly they realised they weren’t going to make enough money with it!

          • Rob says:

Will be £20 ex VAT, because this is being run by Americans who always deal in ex tax prices. At a guess.

          • Alan says:

Interesting thought, could be that. Will persist though given they didn’t mention taxes in the offer. As ever it’s more the poor handling of the communication that is now the issue!!

      • mark2 says:

I would imagine that the 1,000 points are still waiting for you but less opportunity now that Amazon has gone. It tells you at the top how many points you will earn before you confirm the purchase,

        • Alan says:

Yep but as a point of principle I want them to add them for this transaction as I met the terms 🙂 When ordering I didn’t know if the bonus points would show or not in the checkout bit – I was just glad to get it working given it didn’t work at all in Firefox.

OT: Refer a friend, has anyone managed to do the new amex refer friend. With any card can refer any other card. Therefore Plat could be 18000 for referring any other card. I know one or two tried it but hadn’t heard anything since.

    • Andrew says:

I referred a friend using my Platinum link. They decided to go for the Gold card and I got the full 18,000 MR points.

The way I read the terms is that so long as they don’t get the basic charge card, the referrer will get the full 18,000 MR points (assuming the referrer is referring from their Platinum account).

What I would like to know is whether I can use my own referral link and chose the Starwood card so I can get the 18,000 MR points and then the 11,000 Starwood points!

      • Lev441 says:

Has anyone tested this out yet? I’m also curious about referrals with cards in different card family!

      • Graham Walsh says:

I’m also wondering about this too

        • Nick M says:

I have just referred my wife for the SPG from my Plat… will post to confirm what bonuses are received.

Also intending to refer her for her Gold in Jan – do you think they’ll pay out twice for the same person that was referred to a Plat twice but then chose a different card?

        • lev441 says:

          Keep us posted @Nick M

    • Alan says:

Yep been done positive reports on here over last day or two.

  • JP says:

    Does make things very interesting….
