Some Black Friday deals which are already launched

I am not a fan of Black Friday deals, to put it mildly.  However, I get a feeling that the travel industry will be hitting it hard this year given the impact on bookings from the recent events in Paris and Brussels.

Here are the first few – I will fill you in during the week as more are launched:

Melia Hotels – 30% to 45% discounts depending on city (London is 45% which includes the funky ME London and the more traditional White House), booking already open via this link and runs to 30th November for stays until February

Expedia – beating the rush with a 72-hour sale which starts today, more details here

Hotels.com – have an interesting Black Friday one-day offer which I will mention nearer the time as I think it is meant to be secret

Air New Zealand – selling 100 economy flights to Los Angeles for £199 return.  This offer will not actually go live until Monday 30th November although, if you don’t fancy your chances, I believe that there will be other offers available on Friday.

Opodo – until Monday 30th, everyone who books a flight via the site will be entered into a draw for Wonka-style Gold and Silver tickets.  Your chances of winning a Gold prize are not huge but there are “tens of thousands” of £50 flight vouchers available as Silver prizes.  If you are booking a flight this week and Opodo is the same price, you may want to book it via this link as your chance of winning a £50 voucher should be pretty decent.

More Black Friday deals as I get them ….

I found that HI Sheffield was pretty nice when I stayed in October. Refurbished rooms, Spire status well recognised (2 drinks vouchers, then I did make sure to mention it was my birthday, which it was), and what I expect is the grandest breakfast room of any HI in the UK. For contrast, the HIE just across the bridge did not recognise status at all.

    • Rob says:

I am in that HIX at the moment! The HI is an impressive building – I think I am a bit immune to it because I have stayed there loads of times and most of it is lost on me now. It probably has the best staircase of any UK HI!

Wooo hoooo………just got matched at Hyatt to Diamond against HH Gold and SPG Gold. Can anyone advise how to use the Suite upgrades against bookings I already hold?

    • Waribai says:

      Hi,

Well done. Did you already have a longstanding Hyatt account? What kind of stay pattern do you have?

      • Clive says:

Long standing acount with basically zero stays although a couple of reservations for next year. Most of my business is with HH and SPG.

        • Alan says:

Wow that’s impressive – from what I’ve been reading they’d only been offering Plat instead of Diamond over the last few days unless you’re SPG Plat. Gives me some hope! (Hilton Diamond/IHG Plat/Accor Plat/SPG Gold) – put my request in a few days ago, waiting to hear back.

Slightly OTT but talking of new inventions. Apparently Marriott credit cards issued from Jan 16 will be contactless!

GRRRRR – teasing us again rob!!

I have hotels to book. Whats the special offer for hotels.com?

    • Craig says:

Some sort of mystery coupon. A few lucky people will get up to 99% off their hotel night. I suspect 99.999999% of people, however, will get a much lower reduction.

      • DW201 says:

Na – dont think so – their coupons are rubbish and regular. This wouldnt cause Rob to write “interesting” in the description. I’m tempted to say its something to do with the rewards nights. Earn 2 nights for every hotel booked on Friday?

        • Graeme says:

They’re doing an extra rewards night for bookings done on the app at the moment.

        • Rob says:

It isn’t life changing, and I’ve just been told it will now last 3 days and not 1 day which makes it a bit more boring.

  • james_d says:

I sat next to a guy in American business from Miami to Costa Rica this summer who said he’d made his millions in supplying waffle machines to US hotels. Nice chap even invited me around to his house in San Jose and provided me with a number of a contact if I got in trouble in Colombia!

  • Kristofer says:

Any ideas on the likely permissible dates for the LAX £199 rate?

  • Fenny says:

HI Luton has pancake machine, much to the delight of the family of small children sitting at the next table. And me 🙂

Raffles is just a big kid at heart!
