New American Express offers: £25 off £100 at Eurostar and £25 off £50 at Argos

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

On Saturday I ran through the latest run of American Express cardholder offers – including a generous £50 cashback on a £500 Apple purchase – and surmised that this would be it for the year.

I was wrong.  A very generous offer with Argos turned up yesterday.

You can find the offer on the cardmemberoffers.co.uk website under ‘Shopping’.  If you go via this route you will need to register via the Foursquare smartphone app.  Alternatively, you may find it on your American Express online account on the statement pages of one of your cards.

You will receive £25 cashback when you spend £50 at Argos before 31st December.

Only 20,000 registrations are available.  I recommend registering all of your American Express cards sooner rather than later as this target is likely to be hit.  Head for Points readers are likely to take 2,000 or so.

What should you buy at Argos?  Gift cards!  Most Argos shops stock a range of gift cards for other retailers.  Some even stock the £53.95 Visa gift cards which come with a £50 Visa credit you can pay into a bank account, to HMRC, to a utility etc.

Note that this is an ‘in-store only’ offer.  Transactions on the Argos website will not count unless they are ‘click and collect’ and you pay in-store.

You can only register one American Express card per Foursquare account.  If you open multiple Foursquare accounts, each requires a different email address.

Meanwhile, a new Eurostar offer is about to launch.

The deal is worth £25 cashback on a £100 Eurostar sale (either online or at a Eurostar ticket office in the UK) before the end of January.  There is no limit to the number of people who can register for this.

Eurostar no longer sells gift vouchers online.  You can buy paper vouchers via the phone but this could well be run by a third party and not trigger the cashback.  Your best option to maximise the bonus is to break down a trip into chunks of £100, potentially booking each passenger separately.  As you can select seats after booking there is no risk of your party being split up.

  • Simon says:

I just realised that since I last used Foursquare last, the Amex card expired and I got a new one.

How would you add the new number? When I vist that Sync Amex to Foursquare page it just tells me the card is already connected (with the old card number).

  • Mikeact says:

I don’t like the 4sq app at all. Too fussy and complicated for me. Eg Using the App, how do I , easily, check in using all 3 of my previously linked Amex cards ?
Answer, ‘With great difficulty’ or ‘Not possible’ ?

    • Rob says:

Log in, sync, log out, log in again with 2nd FS account, sync, log out etc

      • Tom says:

So I’ve signed up for FS, connected my card, then added the offer to my card. It now says “added”.
Is that all I have to do?

I assume if it says added, I’m in the first 20,000 (and does it matter that I have a Barclaycard Amex?)

  • Boi says:

It used to be easy to find “specials” with the old fs app. How do I do it with new version without manually searching for specific retailer? I just want find Amex offers near me highlighted in Orange by one click like before….

    • Mikeact says:

      Totally agree

    • d4ve says:

Not really as easy as before but a bit of a workaround… if you put ‘Connected Amex Card’ into the search i think it will bring up most specials.

    • Pol says:

      Search #amexoffers in the app.

    • Guesswho2000 says:

Agreed, I also had another anomaly – searching for Argos brought up the list of all those in the area, but not all had the “Amex special” orange banner with it. There’s two where I live, one did, one didn’t, so I added and went to the one that did just in case, though I assume it wouldn’t matter which I went to once it’s added…

  • jason says:

Anyone know how to unsync a card if you cant remember which account you have sync it to..been through all accounts but still says the card is sync to another account!

    • d4ve says:

see the link i posted to an earlier question.

      • Ben says:

That only helps if you know the foursquare account it’s linked to.. I have tried to unsych from 6 but still says the card is connected!

        • d4ve says:

Ah, with that many Foursquare accounts some form of record keeping might be a good idea!

  • Stuart says:

I’ve not used a prepaid Visa to go directly into my bank before, how does it work?

    • Nick says:

Look at the old 3v route for paying in to NS&I. It certainly works that way. I’ve not tried it with a current account though.

      • Stuart says:

So I open an NS&I account (something like the Direct Saver), buy the prepaid Visa from Argos, deposit it in to my NS&I account and then withdraw it to my current account?

Sorry to ask for the step by step but I’ve never done this one before.

        • Nick says:

Bingo. It might well work with other accounts too – I just use NS&I because I used NS&I for 3V and it works for the £53.95 cards too so I just continue to use that route. I imagine there are plenty of other accounts that also allow you to deposit funds directly from a debit card. It might even be possible to pay it directly in to a current account. I’m sure someone can elaborate… for example I think some people used Tesco savings accounts for 3V so that might be another option.

        • Rob says:

Yes that works but as a one-off it is disproportionately a waste of time. Just use the Visa card in a shop as a £50 part payment for something, or pay it to Vodafone, Sky, your gas or electricity company etc as a one-off payment.

  • Andrew says:

Of course. And if you have say two cards you could buy a £100 item for £50.

  • Andrew S says:

Its available for other providers such as llyods issued cards – so you have to go through this for those. Most HfP readers will have several cards.

  • David says:

I’ve registered 9 Amex cards and will pop out today to the local Argos to redeem the offer. I was planning to buy the Visa £53.95 cards and pay them straight into NS&I, but do Argos stock any interesting £50 gift cards for those of us who don’t do much high street shopping? Any grocery ones for instance?

    • d4ve says:

They stock M&S cards. Last time I was in there were none on the rack but they had some in the back they brought out.

      • Louie says:

My local one has iTunes, Debenhams, Next, House of Fraser, Arcadia, New Look, TK Maxx, M+S, Visa, Amex, Book Tokens, Boots, JD, Google Play, Nandos, Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Cine World, Waterstones and WH Smiths.
