Tesco opens an online gift card store which can generate cheap Avios

Tesco has launched an online gift card store just in time for Christmas!

The bad news is that 3V gift cards are not available.  The fee paying Visa gift cards are not available either.  On the positive side, it is now very easy to order a wide range of retailer gift cards and generate some cheap Avios points.

The online store includes, amongst other High Street names, Pizza Express, Nando’s, Pizza Hut, Prezzo, Zizzi, Café Rouge, ASK, iTunes, Waterstones, Book Tokens, Ticketmaster, Currys, Cineworld, WH Smith, Facebook, Halfords, Spotify, House of Fraser, New Look, BHS, Gap, Oasis, Warehouse, Fat Face, Accessorize, H&M, Argos, Homebase, Mothercare, Toy’R’Us etc.

Apart from 3V, I spotted that Next and Starbucks were missing from the ‘typical’ Tesco in-store selection.

There is a fee to pay when you order the cards to cover postage:

£1.50 under £50

£2.95 between £50 and £100

£4.95 if you require a signature on delivery

On the upside, you will earn 150 bonus Clubcard points for every £50 you spend.

The maximum order is £100.  This would generate 300 Clubcard points or 720 Avios points for £2.95 – a pretty decent deal.

For many people, of course, it is easier to buy the gift cards in a Tesco store and save the postage fee.  This would also allow you to earn additional bonus points by using the voucher in the Tesco Christmas magazine.

For anyone who lives a long way from a Tesco store with a good gift card selection – or if it would cost you more than £2.95 in time and travel costs to get there – this is not a bad option.

The page to order gift cards is here.

I have a coup[on for triple ClubCard points.
Does anyone now if it will triple the 700 points for £100 gift cards (with cake).
    I suspect not!

    • Alan says:

No sadly it never seems to multiply bonus points, only base ones!

    • squills says:

      Of course not 😉

It triples the original points, not the bonus points.

      • TimS says:

And before anyone asks fr clarification, from what I have experienced before, the “standard 150” points for £50 gift card spend wouldn’t be tripled either as Tesco class these as bonus points too.

    • squills says:

      Got a £10 off £100 burning a hole in the wallet 😉

  • Mark2 says:

I have finally received an invitation from Lloyds to apply for an Avios Reward card.
    Has anyone else?

    • Rob says:

I got one through today which was triggered on Friday. It is a joke. Post tomorrow.

    • CV says:

yeah, it seems to take 4 or 5 days, i think they must be doing referrals manually.

  • Rob says:

    Not checked yet!

  • TimS says:

There’s also one for £50 off £500 at Apple coming soon for the first 2,000 cards to register.

    • TimS says:

Yes, the Apple, Currys & Nespresso ones weren’t live this morning when I last checked.

      • squills says:

Currys is live already but didn’t bother with Apple as I won’t use

        • TimS says:

They are all live now but this morning the Apple, Currys & Nespresso links were leading to “coming soon” webpages this morning when I last checked.

  • Rob says:

Has anyone tried buying Homebase Giftcards from Tesco and then going to Homebase to buy 3V cards? Just trying to find sources of 3V cards whilst maximising the Tesco promo.

    • What's the Point says:

I did last year, but bundled it up with some tiles I was buying as well. I reckon if it was a straight swap they would probably not allow it.

  • What's the Point says:

Squills – you are a legend. Was trying to find the code for the Currys one!

  • Adam says:

It states in the terms that points will be awarded in a future statement, can anyone confirm that purchasing these gc online do get the 150 pts applied to accounts as if purchasing instore ie: in a few days?
