IHG Rewards Club, the Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza etc hotel group, has announced that its current promotion, ‘The Big Win’, will return in January.

You may have read some of my recent posts (eg this one) about ‘mattress run’ nights I did in cheap locations to hit the low target on my wifes account.  I spent just under £200 to earn over 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points, which should get me around £600 of free stays if used properly.

Registration for the January edition of ‘The Big Win’ should open on Monday.

It will run from January 1st to April 30th.

There is little more to say at the moment, until we see what sort of targets people are getting.  If IHG has set the bar a lot higher than it did for the Winter promotion, it won’t be much fun – but let’s see.

The registration page is now open and is here.

My own account needs 10 nights which is very unlikely.  My wife needs 3 nights / 3 brands / 3 Saturdays, so effectively 3 Saturday nights would do it.  Saturday is a terrible day for us to do mattress run nights, though, and her bonus is only 31,000 points anyway.

My Mum has the most useful selection.  5 nights required (any days) across 3 brands, must include 2 HIX properties (same OK or different?).  Bonus of 98,000 plus the usual points.  This looks worth a punt.  I think I will see what comes up naturally between now and Easter, and then try to pick up some cheap nights over the Easter break right at the last gasp.

    I’ve only been offered 31,000 points. Which i could achieve in just 3 Saturday night stays – i already have 3 Sat nights booked for early next year. During current Big Win stays i had booked before registering were still counted.

    However one of those was from the IHG Christmas sale and doesn’t earn points, so unsure if this will count as a qualifying stay.

    It’s working

  • Darren says:

    Hmmm Travelocity.com seems to have removed the option to be able to search for a hotel over a period to find the best dates/prices for a mattress run, or is it just me having trouble?

    • DrTom says:

      I was looking for this as well, and I also can’t get the calendar displayed on Travelocity. The link just redirects to the option to change the dates.

      • Darren says:

        Does seem to work as before on Travelocity.ca

        • Rob says:

          Yes, I’ve been looking at this. Seems to have gone.

          Probably linked to Expedia taking over Travelocity North America.

  • paul says:

    The following is quite tough particularly the 10 nights and 5 brands.
    Potentially 72300 points plus those from the stays I have trip planned in Jan, Feb and Apr, so this is possible with some planning. I can tick off 4 without much hassle and maybe able to make the 10 with some cheap mattress runs. Much depends on getting a good deal at an IC. Need to use the Travelocity calendar

    Stay a total of 10 nights and earn 10,400 points
    Stay at 5 different IHG brands and earn 20,800 points
    Book 1 stays through the Best Flexible Rate with Breakfast and earn 2,000 points
    Complete a simple survey and earn 100 points
    Stay at 2 Crowne Plaza® hotels and earn 7,200 points
    Stay 2 Saturday nights and earn 4,800 points
    Complete 6 of your offers and earn 27,000 points

  • Gabi says:

    A total of 120900 points offered, Platinum member, probably completing the first Big Win in the next weeks :

    – 10 nights: 15.6 k
    – 4 brands: 28.8 k
    – 3 stays booked with IHG: 3.4 k
    – Dashboard mystery challenge: 20k
    – Survey: 0.1k
    – 2 Saturday nights: 7.2k
    – 2 Crowne Plaza: 10.8k
    – complete 6 of 7 offers: 35 k

    The challenges are easier this time, but I have already booked some 5k/nights stays in January, so I’m not sure I will be able to do much this time.

  • guesswho2000 says:

    75,300 points offered. Looks achievable, bonus being I have a fair amount of planned travel in Jan already which will help cover a lot of it.

    Took the survey and got 100 points for the time being anyway!

    8,800 for six nights;
    2,000 for one night best flex with breakfast;
    20,000 for ” views.dashboard.offer.dd.header “, whatever that means?;
    9,600 for two different hotels in selected cities;
    8,000 for two saturdays;
    4,800 for two HiEx hotels;
    22,000 for completing six offers;
    100 for the survey.

    Does anyone know if a Holiday Inn garden court counts as a different brand? I know HI & HIEX do.

    • Rob says:

      No, it doesnt. Treate as HI.

      • Will says:

        Correct it doesn’t. I went to great lengths to find this out for the current big win (which I will complete on 30th dec)

      • guesswho2000 says:

        Thanks, I thought as much – been investigating my mattress run for the third brand required for the current big win. Crowne Plaza Birmingham it is!

        • Will says:

          Yup I got a Saturday night at Crown Plaza bham for £35 for my 3rd brand. Hitting up the Xmas market while there as only 15 mins away by train (keeps wife happy)

  • John says:

    5 nights in total, which must include 2 brands, 2 Saturdays, 1 Best Flexible Rate with Breakfast and 1 views.dashboard.offer.p.title will get me 69800 points in Round 2. This may or may not be worth it.

    However, IHG has made me spend an extra 70 quid, in order to avoid a losing battle with their “customer services” to rectify an overbooking scenario which caused my final stay for Round 1 (worth 110k points) to post as non-qualifying. I will therefore no longer be spending that money on IHG properties next year.

  • pazza2000 says:

    For me, on par with this qtr’s Big Win promo. More points although with greater effort.

    Stay 6 nights
    Stay 3 brands
    Stay 2 Cities (inc. London)
    Stay 2 Saturdays
    Book 1 best flex with break
    Book 2 with IHG
    Survey

    Total 117k
