Miles & More has launched a surprisingly aggressive sale on its reward seats, for tickets booked before 30th June for travel before 7th July.
From the UK, Abu Dhabi at 40,000 miles in J looks a steal (albeit it’s hot!) as is Hong Kong, Tokyo and Beijing at 70,000. There are also a lot of Economy deals, especially short-haul, but LH’s steep taxes still mean these are still not great deals.
For example, Berlin (from Manchester) is cut from 30,000 miles and £130 taxes to 10,000 miles and £130 taxes – compared to BA’s standard Reward Flight Saver rate of 9,000 miles and £27. Berlin from London at 5,000 miles is slightly more interesting, but BA is still a better deal.
What did stand out, oddly was Manchester to Sylt for 10,000 miles! Sylt is the European equivalent of The Hamptons or Martha’s Vineyard, and stood in for the latter during the filming of Polanski’s ‘The Ghost’ a couple of years ago.
It is also worth playing around with other European starting points to see what other long-haul routes come up, given that you can reach most of them cheaply with a BA Reward Flight Saver. The Lufthansa home page is here.

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards (April 2025)
None of the Star Alliance airlines currently have a UK credit card.
There is, however, still a way to earn Star Alliance miles from a UK credit card.
The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to over 40 airlines at the rate of 3:1.
The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 airline miles per £1 spent on the card.
There is a preferential conversion rate to United Airlines – which is a Star Alliance member – of 2 : 1 if you convert 60,000 Bonvoy points at once.
The Star Alliance members which are Marriott Bonvoy transfer partners are: Aegean, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.
